Yup…..the #snake was defintely eyeing me as I tried to stay out of striking distance. I sure came across a lot of flora and fauna for a spontaneous walk when I happened to be in vicinity of #Labrador Nature Reserve and decided to take a stroll #nparks #nparkbuzz
Another St Andrew’s Cross #spider I came across at #Labrador Nature Reserve except this one hasn’t finished building his web cross. See my other post for interesting fact on the white silk they spin.
Looking at this have me the heeber jeebers! There were like thousands of ants at a stretch then I came across this best they built out of leaves….all glued together in a structure! I cannot imagine walking into it…OMG! Thousands of red fire #ants biting…..
Ants fascinate me - they have such a sophisticated social structure and work ethics. I mean, one might think they’re tiny and ermm…..maybe not as intelligent as humans or other animals. Yet they can build nests, store food, have structured work lines, look after their young, glare at you when you try to shoot them…..isn’t it intelligence at work?
I recommend The #Labrador Nature Reserve for a walk among nature #nparks #nparkbuzz . Ok, I enjoy even watching the ants as they scurry to and fro! Of course getting bitten by one of these fire ants is painful…..or a best of them!
St Andrew’s Cross #Spider - during my walk at Labrador Board Walk, I came across a few of these. Love the white white zig days. From Wiki:
“The very easily visible pattern of banded silk made by Argiopeis pure white, and some species make an "X” form, or a zigzag type of web (often with a hollow centre). The spider then aligns one pair of its legs with each of the four lines in the hollow “X”, making a complete “X” of white lines with a very eye-catching spider coloured bright yellow on a field of black or variegated red white and yellow stripes forming its centre. The white patterns are called stabilimentum and reflect UV light. They have been shown to play a role in attracting prey to the web, and possibly to prevent its destruction by large animals. "
I am just fascinated by how nature’s #predators works. This bust #bee was happily buzzing round the flower and next it got captured by the tiny #spider. Epic
